Sculpey + stuff from the junk drawer, painted. App. 10 inches tall.

Did this about a year ago. The title is definitely a reference the Catherine Wheel song. I first heard CW in January of 1992, at the same time that I was working on the Catherine Wheel painting (a coincidence that has always seemed cosmic to me) and have yet to tire of the first 4 albums. I could never warm up to Wishville, but Rob's solo LP is great....
Don't get me started on music, I could blather on all night

Thanks for looking :)

Now that one came unexpected. There is a hint of octopus in it, and that is enough to make me run (I realized, much to the amusement of my mother in law and my husband's nephew, that squids and octopi freak me out. We were watching some show about the local fishermen, and when I saw an octopus sort of oozing out of the net on the deck of the boat... hm, well, yes. They laughed.)

Octopi are much worse looking when they're out of the water

An intriguing new departure in your sculpture... although not new to you, if you made it a year ago.

You could put a motor in the base and have it rotate for maximum effect. Like :keiross:, only slower. :)

Beautifully visceral and intriguing-- also one of my all time favorite bands-- and I gotta say, Wishville really worked for me, especially Lifeline and Creme Caramel... >___>

Well, I got it when it came out...
Right off the bat I hated the cover (weird how Storm Thorgerson hasn't really approached greatness since his Hipgnosis days). I think I listened to it twice, and it didn't impress me, either good or ill....

It's a grow on ya kind of thing-- it doesn't leap right out of the speakers the way Ferment and Chrome did, but its rewards increase the more often you play it...
 Bjork's Homogeneous is a great album cover-- I'm trying to think of a more recent great album cover...

I can't think of a recent one that impresses me. They all are either rusted metal or 3rd rate Vogue photo shoots.
Some of my favorites:

10cc - Deceptive Bends
Strawbs - Deadlines
Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
The Damned - Damned Damned Damned
Streetwalkers - Vicious But Fair
(All 70s, of course)

I didn't realize you were familiar with Strawbs!-- I think Hero and Heroine was the first time I ever got perfectly and totally absorbed by the contents of an entire album...
Album cover art from the past 12 years is just a ridiculous tragedy, when you consider how many great albums we've heard in that time...

I think that once the "12X"12 format was phased out, cover art was greatly devalued by labels. Unless there's a huge vinyl resurgence, I don't really see this changing

The Heartthrobs, The Tragically Hip, REM-- three bands that come straight to mind in trying-- haplessly-- to multi-fold large scale art into a little jewelcase... Somehow, this whole thing will come around to the point where downloaded albums will have full animated artwork accompaniment, playable on any computer screen...

We're seemingly moving towards... intangibility. I would willingly sacrifice animated artwork for something I can hold in my hands. I saved all my CD long-boxes just for this reason
