Acrylic on canvas-board, 11X14 inches. Painted in April of 1982.
I've had several premonitions of my own death over the course of my life. The first was December of 1977, the second in April of 1982. No idea if these are a thinning of the veil between what is and what always is, or simply a routing of chemicals in the head. I don't particularly care which, but it is an interesting and otherworldly feeling.
I first became aware of the music of the great Orlando Gibbons on March 3, 1982. It has been a staple of my life ever sense. As I was overtaken by the aforementioned feeling in the spring of '82, this little painting just more or less... happened - a product of the jumble in my head at the time. Life goes on, and one jumble replaces another. It's a crudely painted little piece, but it does (for a moment) take me back to a time when dark times were, in retrospect, not so dark after all.
A link to a particular Gibbons piece associated with this painting [link]
Were the premonitions the same or had they changed with age? This is very different from your "usual". Very bare and lonely... pretty much like death I guess, one has to do that alone.
wow, this image is really interesting compared with your other works. that sphere looks like jupiter...and also a golf ball on a tee. the landscape feels very very....empty. frighteningly vast.
I think your paintings are a reflection of your definite ability to thin the veil, because you're on an entire different level than everybody else. No one does it like you do! Furthermore this piece gives me the heebie jeebies.
Are your layers thin enough that the texture of the canvas shows through? Or is that just a reflection from the camera flash. I only ask because I'm just starting to learn acrylics and have no idea what I'm doing, hahah... if I should be trying to cover the entire canvas impasto or is it just personal taste (the canvas texture has appeared in everything I've done so far).
