I find this painting very inspiring to start painting large canvas paintings and then burn them in bizzarre or public places, with really abstract pictures and messages. And just stand next to it silent and standing straight up, looking away from it. To declare the moment, and abolish thinking in the past. And then take a picture of it, to capture that moment and to re-accept the past.
Haha Im a dork :)
But I do find this inspiring and Im half serious about the above idea.
Thank you for sharing :D

you have wierd ideas bro, but fantastic as usual !
spacefille Featured By Owner Jan 29, 2005
I don't know if words can describe how brilliant this peice is. I love the painting within a painting that is buring effect.

I also like how your work is more original and abstracted than a lot of people's work seems to be here on Deviantart.

I love this painting. We have the first three prints. We will have to get this one too. What is written in the book?
kolaboy Featured By Owner Jan 29, 2005  Professional Traditional Artist
Thanks =)
The book contains the collected writings of Jie (recently discovered). They are comparable in quality the the writings of Homer and Ossian.

I wish I could crawl inside your head, and know what you know, and see with your eyes for a while. I wish I knew where you get the inspiration for your paintings, and for each little piece of symbolism in your paintings.....I am jealous I suppose. This is a great painting!!

Art should communicate ideas while encouraging reflection on those ideas.
I don't think I've ever seen paintings that puzzle me like yours do. Its wonderful to be challenged.

I see these and all I can think about is how cold she must be.

all the Jie Xia pictures are so haunting.. and she always looks so anxious in them, too. Maybe she's cold. I won't pretend to even begin to understand all the symbolism - although all the juxtapositions of the warm and cold elements are quite interesting to see, all these surreal things muddling my brain. All the details catch my eye too, the aliens in the background, the grim-reaper type figure in her painting, and the alignment of the moon and star above it, and the candle below... electrical wires going nowhere, paint cans containing water? So strange and enticing. My favorite series of yours, really.

I've read a few stories online about the Tyrannical Jie Xia, and I can't even begin to fathom the connection between this series of paintings and him. I do know everyone is mistaking the girl for Jie. I'd also wager that the painting you're refering to in the title isn't you're painting but the painting in the painting. :D

This one I adore. Possible my favorite from your Jie Xia pictures, probably because of all the contrasts and the sense of being able to find something new around every corner of the piece. Brilliant.

I look at this again, and so many other things pop up in it. In Jie's painting, who's the woman standing infront of the big hole? Is that Jie? Whats the hanging woman, the peace sign definately makes me think of woman's lib during the 60's and 70's, and all they fought for at that time concerning sexuality, being strung upside down from her heels, maby she's Jie too. The yes and no make me think that Jie is facing some sort of really cruel dilemma. The other side with the bust makes me think of male intellectual authority. And the bible, and the candle in front of the bible also seems to point to the fact that she's got a dilemma and she's preying. But then the candle's melting the popsicle, maby Jie's trying to free the people.

this series of paintings is aboslutely amazing - I have rarely been touched by a piece of art so much. It makes me want to fav all four of them. These are so beautiful, I just can't seem to get over it. There are so many hidden little details and meanings. So much to look at, and the pieces as a whole with their contrasts and desolate atmosphere are just so wonderful.

Brandon, sitting next to me: "Hey, it's burning. You see that popsicle burning? It's burning. Go back and look at it."

I think you may have a new fan. ;)

That would be pretty yummy, a burning blue popsicle. Do they even make blue popsicles? I can't think. I like Jie Xia a lot. But I think I've already said that.

lully as in ramond lully/ramon llull? as with all of your paintings, quite fascinating...and wish i understood what i am fairly certain is a lot of catholic symbolism better than i do. what is lully doing in this painting? a reference to the cult of the virgin? or to love as the only way to convert? or to his abrupt flight from reality after learning that his adored unmarried sweetheart was dying of breast cancer? or none of these? i enjoy the intellectual vigor and vibrancy of your paintings.
