The Red Sail by kolaboy The Red Sail by kolaboy
Acrylic 0n canvasboard, 9x12 inches. New. Cropped a bit on the left due to scanner limitations.

Completed in an unavoidable haze of medication(s). Most assuredly the haze was neither pleasant, nor purple =D

Model/Inspiration = :iconj4n3t:

Thanks for looking =)

Amazing! I love that bit of grey background and the street light. Also, Mao and the dragon and the girl's button are powerful details!

Unbelievably, and undeniably... profound. The red seams on her face came as quite a shock...

Brilliant as ever Danny. This one (the streetlight in particular) actually inspired me to get off my lazy rear and post a new photo :)

A particularly high summit in your mountain range of highly personal work. :omfg:

Oddly enough, I have a pentagram fetish going at the moment... certain Arabic magic manuscripts have a lot to answer for. :star:

P.S. The medication story sounds concerning, I hope it ended well. :pills:

RE the medication: terrible happy to be done with them...

Been meaning to ask you; has your research trurned up an instances of seven pointed stars?

Oddly enough, no... despite the heptagram cracking a half-page blurb in Carl Liungman's Dictionary of Symbols, where it's called "an obvious development of the pentagram".

There are Seven Symbols in the Greatest Name, with seven corresponding planets, archangels, etc., but I have never seen any seven-pointed stars. They're either pentagrams or hexagrams, which seem to be used interchangeably. The working hypothesis is that hexagrams became popular because they're easier to draw than pentagrams, and the same logic might explain the dearth of seven-pointed stars.

These symbols sure get around. Just this week I came across a Mongolian Buddhist talisman that contained lots of pentagrams and half-moon crescents.

I was tryin to recall where I had read of the 7 pointed star and it's significance - then I remembered that it was a Bram Stoker novel "The Jewel of Seven Stars" (which also featured a seven fingered mummy), But that aside it apparently does have significance in several ancient cultures

i love the detail in all ur pictures such as the lamp post in the back ground same at your DA pic... its meaning is a loss to me... but its always enjoyable to scan thru art and see a quirk here and there that makes you think "hmmm i wonder what that means" even if you never find out.
