From the current BREED pack [link] I find myself drawn to the forgotten. Johann Gottfried Bernhard Bach, Maria Bronte..... Reading a review of Velvet Goldmine several years back, a name jumped out of the paragraph that had been completely obscured in my mind for decades. Mention was made that the album cover by the fictitious glam rock star Maxwell Demon resembled very closely that of the very real Jobriath, who released two brilliant but largely forgotten albums on Elektra in the early seventies. The myth that has subsequently grown up around the singer is that he was little more than a Bowie clone, an ill conceived attempt to Ziggy-fy the American colonies. Clive Davis has even said that signing Jobriath (real name Bruce Campbell) was the biggest mistake he ever made while working at Elektra. That said, Jobriath was hyped as few other artists have been, before or since. Suffice to say that the hype that preceded Jobriath could have been fulfilled by no one. The image ultimately (and unfortunately) overshadowed the music. I find it to be a profoundly sad thing that music of this quality should be consigned to the dustbins of history. There is (thanks to mega-fan Morrissey) a compilation cd available. I'll wager that it's cover will not be imitated in any future motion picture release. Yes, it's that bad. A Jobriath link [link] |

" space. "
Great painting, as always. The space-plane reminds me of ill-fated Air France Flight 4590... that Concorde could definitely have done with some help from a balloon.

Mary dances for the angels
She's a puppet turned to queen
She's the harlot of the holy
Only angels hear her sing
love this... as always
